WEADON, Dorothy H. "Peg"

Passed away peacefully Saturday morning, February 4,
2006 while sleeping in her beautiful "Princess Grandma
bed" at her home in Otis Orchards, WA. She was born
February 6th, 1916 in Philadelphia, PA to Caroline and
Linwood Heist. Although she was christened Dorothy,
she was so small that a nurse named her "Peg" and it
remained the name all who knew her well used. Last
year, she wrote about her long life and her family. We
share it with you here: "I had an older brother
(Francis) and sister (Anne) and we had a very happy
normal childhood until the great crash of 1929. That
changed the lives of just about
every family. Fortunately, my father did not lose his
position, but every payday he had another "cut". My
husband's father was not so lucky. He was the night
editor of the Associated Press and was replaced with a
much younger man. I met Dick at the Mt. Airy
Presbyterian Church. We were in a musical comedy and
the director told us "If you are in love in the Play -
be in love out of the Play" We were very good
students, so a few years later, we were married
(February 16, 1936). In 1937, Anne Louise was born.
Then when World War ll was declared, we moved to
Piqua, Ohio for his engineering job with Lear Aircraft
Company and then on to Grand Rapids, Michigan. In
1944, Linda Lee arrived. After the war we were so
homesick for Pennsylvania that we moved back." Peg and
Dick remained there until 1994. At that time she had
been caring for her husband, who had developed
Parkinson's disease. "When his hip broke, I had big
decisions to make. After all of the pros and cons, I
sold our home and came out West. I have never
regretted that decision. Dick had great care and I met
and made wonderful friends. Linda and Murphy, her
husband, have made me feel part of a family again, and
I hope it goes on for a long, long time." Peg was a
wonderful Mother and friend. Her wry sense of humor,
hearty laugh and tender ways will be sorely missed by
all who knew her. She was a talented seamstress and
gardener. She could make the simplest rooms into a
showplace with her natural creativity. Her passions
were her family, her flowers, dancing, football and
baseball, she was looking forward to watching the
Super Bowl. She was a devoted Christian and was a
member of East Valley Presbyterian Church. She was
preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard W.
"Dick" Weadon. She is survived by her loving
daughters, Anne Hunscher of Ballston Spa, NY, and
Linda Murphy and husband, Del of Otis Orchards, WA;
granddaughters: Lisa Keogh (Martin), Karen Hurff
(Matt), and Christina Burland (Zach); grandsons:
William Hunscher (Kelly) and Jason Ham (Gina);
great-grandchildren: William, Isabella, and Cicely
Hunscher; Stefan Cautino, William and Wyatt Hope, and
Dylan Keogh; Jacob, Jarod and Jamon Ham, and Gage and
Hannah Burland. Her life was an example of undying
love, commitment to goodness and the recognition of
humor to get through pain. We miss her terribly
already. Memorial Services and celebration of her life
will be held at East Valley Presbyterian Church, 5305
N. Harvard Rd., Otis Orchards, WA at 3 PM on Tuesday,
February 7th, 2006.
