Lucy Dickson Wendt
Lucy Dickson Wendt, 104, died peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2003, after a
long, happy, healthy life, beloved by everyone she met. Few people have the
opportunity to live in three separate centuries and see the immense world changes and
events that have occurred.
Lucy was born October 19, 1899 in Ellington, MO, to Thomas and Mary Catherine
Dickson. At an early age, Lucy moved with her family to Elma, WA where she
graduated from high school. Lucy was an early graduate of Washington State College
in Home Economics in 1923. For many years, Lucy judged home economics at the
Evergreen State Fair.
Lucy is survived by her sons, Robert L. Wendt of Huntsville, AL and Dr. Richard A.
Wendt of Everett, WA, and their wives Lois and Nancy. She also leaves her
grandchildren, Kate Eanes, Eric Wendt (Roxanne), Lisa Wendt (Craig Wallach), Anne
Wendt-Yeckley (Orien), and Lauren Wendt; and her great grandchildren, Riann Eanes,
Jamie Wendt, and Cadin, Tristan and Ava Yeckley.
Her husband Louis A. Wendt preceded her in death in 1968. Lucy met her husband
while teaching school in Cathlamet, WA. Mr. Wendt was an engineer with
Weyerhaeuser and they were active in the Weyerhaeuser community. Lucy enjoyed
sewing, gardening and had a genuine love of people throughout her life. Well into her
90's, Lucy was able to continue driving, taking care of her home and garden, and
traveling.
Lucy has been an active member of the First Baptist Church of Everett since 1935. Its
members and her family and friends will dearly miss Lucy. Lucy was the rare person who
had only good things to think and say about other people; in return, they had only love
for her. The family would like to thank Forest View Nursing Home for her care during
her final years.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to the Wendt Endowment for the
Arts/Greater Everett Community Foundation, P.O. Box 5549, Everett, WA 98206.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, 409
Filbert Road in Lynnwood on Saturday, November 15, 2003 at 11:30am.
