Gladys Mumford SEARS

Born February 24, 1924 in Cochranton, Pennsylvania. Died peacefully at her Seattle
home in the company of her family, on Sunday, March 6, 2005. Gladys settled in
Seattle after getting her M.A. in Psychology at the University of Iowa in 1949. She
taught at the University of Washington for five years. After meeting Donald Sears in the
Mountaineers Club, they married in 1954. Gladys raised three daughters and returned to
the University of Washington as a clinical psychologist in child development until her
retirement. Gladys will be remembered for her cheerful disposition and her enjoyment of
the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Her concern for others showed in her work
as a psychologist, as a Girl Scout leader, and as a good friend and neighbor. She is
survived by her husband of 50 years, her three daughters and son-in-law, three
grandchildren, two sisters, and one brother.
