| Age 93, died July 26 of illness related to her age and Alzheimers. Mabel was born on Nov. 11, 1906 to Marcus E. and Zella M. Harrison in Tillamook, Or. After graduation from Tillamook High School, Mabel attended Oregon Agriculture College, now Oregon State University. She married Gideon Myles Sloan on Feb. 23, 1929 and celebrated their 60th anniversary before his death. Mabel resided with her family in Portland Or., White Salmon, Wa., and Lake Oswego, Or. before moving to Seattle in 1957, and then to Bothell in 1962. Besides being a homemaker, Mabel was employed as a cook at Lake Oswego and Bothell High Schools, and also at the University of Washington. Her main interests were her family, gardening, travel and visiting. Mabel was especially gifted at providing a warm home for her family and a myriad of children of friends and neighbors. Mabel and Gid's yard was the place for the neighborhood children to meet and play. Mabel's eldest son, Myles, is deceased and the four surviving children are: Faye Sloan Crumbley of Tacoma, Wa., Harvey P. Sloan of Bothell Wa., Carol J. Erskine of McMinnville,Or., and Todd E. Sloan of Eugene, Or. Disposition will be by cremation, no formal service will be held. An informal family gathering is planned. |
