Dorothy Delma (Caughell) SCHEFFLER

Dorothy Scheffler was reunited with her husband
Raymond on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2008.
Youngest and last surviving of five children, she was
born to John and Catherine Caughell on August 11, 1916
in Crawford Pennsylvania. Dorothy graduated in 1934
with top honors from Burnettsville High School in
Burnettsville, Indiana. After being introduced by her
sister Gladys, she married Raymond Robert Scheffler on
December 16, 1940 in San Diego, CA, who was in the US
Navy. She traveled to Hawaii on the ocean liner
Matsonia to join her husband who had been transferred
to the Pacific Fleet stationed there. There with
Raymond, her sister and her husband Bob Wood, she
survived and always recalled the infamous day of
December 7th, 1941. Dorothy was extremely close to all
her family, but the experience of that day formed a
particularly special bond between the sisters and
their families which lasted through the remainder of
her life. Dorothy's strong character and
self-sufficiency was well suited for the task of being
a Navy wife. Selling and buying homes, moving her sons
up and down the East Coast and getting them started in
new schools while Ray was out to sea was a way of life
from 1946 to 1960. Following her husband's retirement
from the Navy, Dorothy moved to Lynnwood, Washington
in 1960 with her sons. She worked at Fluke
Manufacturing in Lynnwood during the 1960's and was a
bookkeeper at Olympic Swim School in Bellevue during
the 1970's. Dorothy embraced the outdoors and loved
fishing and hunting with Raymond and her family. In
addition, she was an avid and excellent bowler.
Following the passing of her beloved husband in 2005,
she continued her love of life and people at Sunrise
Assisted Living in Bellevue. She will always be
remembered for her wonderful singing of uplifting
songs with a voice that never diminished, even in her
final days. She is survived by her sons Raymond
Scheffler Jr. and Conrad Scheffler; granddaughters
April Scheffler and Erika Scheffler; nephew William
Wood and nieces Barbara Wood and Linda Coulson, who
reside in South Carolina. Memorial Services for
