REYNOLDS, Evelyn M. Jan. 28, 1915 - July 1, 2008 Beloved wife, mother of five children, grandmother to six, and great-grandmother to 11. Evelyn M. Reynolds passed away on July 1, 2008. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 12 noon at Sunnyside Seventh-day Adventist Church, of which she was a charter member. Evelyn was born on Jan. 28, 1915, to Herman and Matilda Biastock in Coloma, Mich. She moved to Portland in 1925 with her parents, brother, Bill Biastock and sister, Edna Biastock (Reiner). She graduated from Laurelwood Adventist Academy in 1933, where a year earlier she met the love of her life, Frank Reynolds. They were married on May 16, 1936, in the original Sunnyside Seventh-day Adventist Church which her father built in 1927. Evelyn and Frank enjoyed 72 years of marriage as each other's closest companion. Together, they hosted many joyful gatherings for friends and family in their homes. Each event, a remarkable tribute to Evelyn's gift for hospitality, mastery of delicious home-cooked meals, devotion to homemaking and creating opportunities for happy family memories; with Frank as her faithful sidekick. In 1984, Frank and Evelyn traveled the United States in their travel trailer and in 1986, they toured the Alaska Highway and Canada; with Evelyn in charge of the trip planning, advance reservations and map coordinates. For 28 years after retirement, they traveled in their RV truck and trailer; covering over 40,000 miles and not once did they miss a reservation or destination. Evelyn's public accomplishments include president of the Women's Auxiliary for Portland Adventist Hospital in 1970. She also volunteered in numerous offices for her church family; and for seven years, Evelyn and Frank served as volunteer chaplains at Portland Adventist Medical Center. They hosted and organized reunions for their graduating class of 1933 and wrote an annual newsletter to all remaining classmates. But she will be missed for qualities appreciated best by her family, friends, and neighbors; the well-written note of encouragement; a birthday remembered; the daily phone calls to her sister and best friend, Edna; and Thanksgivings on the grandest scale. She put her trust in God; she highly valued her marriage, motherhood and her large and growing family. She is survived by her husband, Frank; children, Carolyn Hanson, Claudia Blair, Jim (and Sheila) Reynolds, Pam (and Guy) Hamer; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her sister, Edna Reiner. She is predeceased by their son, Bobby Reynolds (1946-1951) and her brother, William Blastock. Sunnyside Seventh-day Adventist Church is located at 10501 SE Market St. Portland, OR 97216. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Portland Adventist Community Services (PACS), 11020 NE Halsey, Portland, OR 97220. Published in The Oregonian on 7/6/2008.
