Rueben F. "Doc" Pehling Doc left this world on February 2, 2008, at Providence Hospital in Everett. He was born on April 22, 1921, in Nicollet, Minnesota. After graduating from High School, he served in the CCC and then joined the Navy, where he served for 24 years, retiring in 1964 at the rank of Master Chief Hospital Corpsman. His experiences ranged from a Hospital Ship, Fleet Tug, and submarines to Ice Breakers. After retirement he worked at several different professions and earned an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering from Everett Community College. Doc was a long-time member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Snohomish. He was a man of varied interest, in addition to his devotion to his family. He built and flew ultra-light planes, enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, boating, horseback riding, competition shooting and was an avid reader. Doc leaves his beloved wife, Caroline; children, Cherryl Ann (William) Dennis, David (Lori) Pehling and Patricia Pehling; grandchildren, James, (Jennifer) Dennis and David (Tammy) Dennis; great-grandchildren, Mykel, Kendra, Madison, Morgan, and Mackenzie Dennis; brother, James (Doris) Pehling; sister, Mrytle Humphries; and many nieces and nephews and their children. His oldest son, Terry and sisters, Mae and Ruth, preceded him in death. The family appreciates the good care he received at Providence Hospital Colby Campus, especially from Joelle and Becka. Services will be at 11 a.m., on Saturday, February 9, 2008, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with a reception and graveside service following. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, are requested to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Bauer Funeral Chapel, Snohomish. Published in The Herald (Everett) from 2/6/2008
