PODLAS, Joyce Melva (Age 74) A very long-time resident of Elk, WA, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2007. She is the dear mother and mother-in-law of Richard and Melody Podlas and the loving grandmother of Angelina Podlas, all of Mead, WA. Her sister June Baumgardner resides at Newport, WA, and her sisters-in-law are Betty Hays of Elk and Carol Payne of Richland, WA. Joyce enjoyed many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends. She is preceded in death by her dear husband Frank Podlas, Jr. in June of 2007, her parents John and Mary Payne, her brother Jack Payne, and her step-father Tony Peterson. Born in Spokane in 1933, Joyce attended the Fertile Valley Grade School and graduated from Newport High School in 1951 and married Frank the same year. Joyce was a member of the Fertile Valley Grange for 59 years. She and Frank owned and operated their dairy ranch at Elk, and that dairy won the Golden Cow Award from Darigold twice. Joyce had a full and happy life on their dairy farm, and she loved to cook, bake, garden, and paint. Richard, Melody, and Angelina extend a sincere thanks to Northpoint Dialysis and Hospice of Spokane for the fine care given to Joyce. Funeral Services honoring Mrs. Podlas will be in Elk at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 24, 2007, at the Country Church of the Open Bible, directed by the LAUER FUNERAL HOME IN DEER PARK, WA, with Pastor Bob Smith officiating.
