Elsie Nordfors PERKINS

1907-2002 Elsie was born on August 18, 1907, to Angeline and Elof
Ahlstrom in Bradford, Pennsylva nia. The family later moved from
Oklahoma to Spokane where Mr. Ahlstrom worked for the Great
Northern Railroad. After graduating high school, Elsie completed nurses
training in Spokane at Sacred Heart Hospital, and later trained as an
anesthesiolo gist in Portland, Oregon. While working at Ta coma
General Hospital, she met her future husband, Birger Nordfors. They
were mar ried in 1935 and resided in Tacoma until 1941, at which time
they moved to Fife where they raised three sons. In addition to being a
full- time homemaker, Elsie was active with the local school PTA. She
was a master of English grammar, and she took an active role in the
education of her sons. She was a member of Eastern Star and was
active with the Tele phone Pioneers through the affiliation of Birg er,
who worked for the Pacific Northwest Bell Company. Following the
death of her husband in 1961, she went to work as a bookkeeper for
the Oak wood Dairy in Fife owned by their dear friends, the Ambuehl
family. Elsie later moved to Gig Harbor, and in 1973, she married
Clarence Perkins who passed away in 1980. Elsie is survived by son
and daughter-in-law David and Barbara Whitney Nordfors of Seat tle;
son and daughter-in-law J. Spencer and Betty Nordfors of Gig Harbor;
son and daugh ter-in-law Vincent and Diane Nordfors of Seattle; step
sons Russell Perkins of Tacoma and Richard Perkins of California;
grandchil dren Randall and Deborah Nordfors of Kirk land, WA;
Douglas Nordfors of Charlottes ville, VA; Erica Nordfors, Christopher
and Kathryn Nordfors, Shawn Nordfors, and An drew Nordfors all of
Seattle; and her niece Mary Jane Sainsbury and her husband George of
Mercer Island. Elsie died peacefully on the evening of March 11, 2002,
at the age of 94. She will always be re membered with love, and for her
deep and un wavering devotion to her family. Memorial Services will be
held at 11 a.m., Sat urday, March 16, at The New Tacoma Ceme
teries and Funeral Home, 9212 Chambers Creek Rd. W., University
