Shirley L. MENDEL

85, died February 23, 2003 in Seattle, WA., where she had lived since
1980. Born in Ashland, MO, she formerly lived in Decatur, IL, where she
and her husband, Leo, owned a successful travel agency. She was a world
traveler. As an adult, she returned to college and earned a B.A. degree
from Millikin University. After moving to the Northwest, Shirley worked
for various travel agencies until retiring in 1988. She was a member of the
American Society of Travel Agents; Association of University Women;
Seattle Tenants Union and University Unitarian Church. She is survived
by her children, Janet Mendel of Spain, David Mendel, Phillip Mendel of
Los Angeles and Elaine Mendel-John of New Orleans; a brother, Derwood
Foster of Oregon; and three grandchildren. Internment is private, by Bleitz
Funeral Home, Seattle. A family memorial will be held at a later date.
