William Y. MOFFAT

November 9, 1925 - February 25, 2002 To my beloved husband: "If I
could sit across the porch from God, I would thank Him for loaning me
you." Ecc. 3:1,2 "There is a time for everything, and a season for every
activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die" Born
November 9, 1925 in Forty Fort, Pennsylvania to David and Jean
Moffat. Bill was the second of three sons, David A. (deceased), and
Edward (Ted). On Monday, February 25 after a long illness, Bill died
peacefully in his home in Mount Vernon with family by his side. Ecc.
3:18 "A time for war, and a time for peace" On November 10, 1942,
one day after his seventeenth birthday, Bill joined the Navy to serve in
World War II. He entered training as a combat medic in Portsmouth,
Virginia, and of a class of 150 he would be one of 20 to graduate as a
Navy Medic. He received orders to serve on the aircraft carrier
Intrepid in the South Pacific Theatre, and in the Battle of Truk Bill was
seriously injured in a kamikaze attack. After seven months of
hospitalization he returned to stateside duty and continued to serve until
his honorable discharge in October of 1945. Ecc. 3:3 "A time to tear
down, and a time to build" On returning home, Bill married his High
School sweetheart, Jean, finished his high school credits, and entered
Temple University. As with many veterans of his era the return to
normal life was fraught with difficulties and support groups were not in
existence. Each handled his problems in his own way. His first marriage
ended in divorce, and the building began anew. A few years later his
second marriage to Ann also ended. 1 Cor. 13:13 "And now these
three remain: Faith, Hope, and Love. But the greatest of these is
Love." In what some consider to be his greatest act of courage, Bill
married Mary (Mimi) Wilson on the 8th of May, 1971, and became the
daddy he didn't have to be to Denice, Donald, Edward, Thomas, and
Jerome. That union lasted for over thirty years. Ps. 104:23 "Then a man
goes out to his work, to his labor until evening." Bill's work history was
consistent but varied. Licensed Private Investigator, Manager of the
William Penn Inn (Pennsylvania), construction in Alaska, and Fraud
Investigator for the State of Washington (DSHS and L&I) were but a
few of the positions he held. Retired from Labor and Industries after
eighteen years, Bill volunteered his time to the Shoreline Police
Department. The friendships he developed there with the officers and
staff members were especially pleasing to him. At this time he also
joined a Bible study class and took great pleasure being with his friends
pursuing their common spiritual interests. Ps. 46:1 "God is our refuge
and strength, an ever present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not
fear" Those of us who loved him and celebrated his presence in our
lives include: wife, Mary; daughter, Denice; sons, Don and wife Regli,
Edward and wife Cindy, Thomas and wife Donna, Jerome and wife
Barbara. Pro. 17:6 "Children's children are a crown to the aged"
Michael and Kevin, sons of Don and Regli; Amanda and William,
daughter and son of Ed and Cindy. Bill had as very special bond with
his brother Ed Moffat and wife Dorothy. Nieces, nephews, and family
include: David Moffat, Lisa and Blake Wingle and children, Brent,
Emily, Brandon, and Aubrey Joy; Louise and Chuck Hawthorn and
children Grant, Melissa, and Courtney; Karen Trainer and sons Garret
and Michael; Kenneth and Sandi Moffat and children Jessica, Jonelle,
and Calle; Marion and Douglas Horavater and children Chena and
Reeve; and Dolores (Mo) and Jimmy Cussen. At Bill's request no
memorial service will be held. To those of you who knew and loved
him, yours prayers for him and us, his family, will be warmly accepted
and greatly appreciated.
