| MILLER, David Edward May 16, 1948-November 7, 2007 David Edward Miller, former senior vice president of Meier & Frank department stores, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, at Providence St. Vincent Hospital from emphysema at age 59. David was born in Pittsburgh on May 16, 1948, to Rita and Richard Miller. He moved to Portland in 1983 to help return Meier & Frank to its former grandeur and was responsible for many of the special events the city so loved. David took great pride in Meier & Frank and the city of Portland where he was proud to call home. He enjoyed a 30-year career with May department stores at Kaufman's Pittsburgh, May Company Cleveland and Strouss, Youngstown, Ohio. David loved the arts and served on many local as well as national boards raising immeasurable funds. The Oregon Symphony, Oregon Ballet Theatre, Parry Center, Portland Art Museum, Oregon Zoo, The Oregon Historical Society and Jesuit High School were among his favorite charities. Survivors include his son, David E. Miller II; daughter, Kimberly LaHaie; son-in-law, Jeff LaHaie; former wife, Patricia Miller; father, Richard Miller of Pittsburgh; brother, Rick Miller of Pittsburgh; several nieces and nephews; and friend, Lynn York Hellenga. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rita, and brother, Ronald. Private funeral services have been held. Remembrances to Jesuit High School, The David E. Miller Sr. Memorial Fund.
