The Rev. Adrian Ellis Martin

Born Dec. 2, 1916, Oregon, MO to Lula E. and Emil W. Martin. Born into glory,
July 22, 1996, with his family at his side. He died of heart failure. Graduate of
University of OR, Actor Shakespearean Festival, Ashland, OR, 1939. Journalist
before serving the the US Army during WWII. Education officer during the
occupation of Japan under General Douglas McArthur for 6 years. Introduced
education, 4-H, and PTA programs. Graduate San Francisco Theological
Seminary, 1957 and ordained a Presbyterian Minister. There he met his bride to
be. Served congregations in Orick-Trinidad and Calistoga, CA. Preached in many
pulpits in the Pacific NW. From 1966-1978 he was an Army Education Service
Specialist at Fort Lewis. He enabled thousands of soldiers to complete G.E.D.'s,
college and advanced degrees. He was a counselor and friend to many a soldier.
Served Trinity Presbyterian Church in Tacoma 3 years. Retired as Pastor South
Tacoma Presbyterian Church in 1992 after serving 16 years. He was a member of
Olympia Presbytery and a commissioner to General Assembly, 1976. Member
Seniors on Stage, Lakewood. Graveside service held Wed., at Woodbine
Cemetery, Puyallup. A Memorial service to be held Sat., July 27, at DuPont
Presbyterian Church, 502 Barksdale, DuPont at 10:30am. He leaves behind his
wife of 41 years Rev. Iris W. Martin of Edgewood, brother Dr. Daniel M. Martin
(Ann) of Oakland, CA and his life is carried on by daughter, Rev. Joyce M.
Emery (Rev. David) of Ringoes, NJ, son, Paul W. Martin (Eileen) of Sumner, Noel
S. Martin (Lorie) of Puyallup, and grandchildren, Leah Adam, Benjamin, John
