Richard Long

1932 - 1998 Richard Long, SR, a long time resident of Federal Way,
died at his home on Thursday, May 14, 1998 of kidney failure,
following a long illness. He was 66. Richard was born in St. Joseph,
MO, on April 10, 1932. His family moved to Mabton, WA, where he
graduated from Mabton High School in 1951. In 1952 Richard enlisted
in the Air Force, where he was stationed at Neah Bay. Here he met his
wife of 44 years. The couple moved around before finally calling
Federal Way home in 1967. Richard made his career as an employee
of G.S.A. for 18 years before retiring in 1985. Richard's favorite
pastime was baseball. He was active in F.W.L.L. since 1967. He was a
coach for 25 years, including Assistant Coach for the 1990 WA State
L.L. majors team, along with his son and grandson. In 1974 he
continued his coaching career, this time coaching his 3 daughters
through 1982. Richard was an avid Mariners fan and attended spring
training in AZ and had season tickets every year. Richard was a
wonderful influence on many generations, who proceed to achieve their
many goals in life, dedicated to the spirit of a man who gave great
inspiration to all who came in contact with him. Richard is survived by
his wife of 44 years, Iris; his son, Richard II; his 3 daughters, Vickie,
Anita and Teri; his grandson, Richard "Allen" III; his 2 granddaughters,
Caren and Jennifer; and his granddogs, Gertie, Grover and Mango.
Richard had asked, in lieu of flowers, that all donations be made in his
name to the Federal Way Multi-Service Center Food Bank. Everyone
is invited to Yahn and Son Funeral Home in Auburn on Monday, May
18, 1998 at 12:00 in the afternoon to celebrate his life.
