Ethel "Babe" Laws
Funeral services for Ethel "Babe" Laws will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, in
the chapel at Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main St., Milton-
Freewater. Private interment will be at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery.
Mrs. Laws, 82, of Milton-Freewater, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at
St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla.
She was born June 15, 1918, at Mercer, Mo., the eighth child of
William and Hannah Walker Williams. They moved to Newcastle, Wyo.,
when she was three years old and she attended Newcastle public
schools.
She worked at the Antlers Hotel in Newcastle where she met Lester
Morkert whom she later married. The couple had a daughter, Patricia.
They came to Milton-Freewater in 1943.
After divorcing Mr. Morkert, she married Irvin Laws. The couple had a
son, Lee.
Mrs. Laws enjoyed crocheting and sewing and was always ready to lend
a helping hand to those who needed help with babysitting or
housecleaning.
Survivors include a son, Lee Laws of Milton-Freewater; grandsons,
Justin Laws and Trystyn Dillman and a niece in Missouri. She was
preceded in death by her daughter Patricia, four sisters, four
brothers and her parents.
Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, Milton-Freewater, is in charge of
arrangements.
