Raymond H. Keil
Raymond H. Keil was born in Jamestown, MO on July 13, 1913, where early
years were spent on his father's farm. The Great Depression caused his
father Charles to lose the farm, relocate to Tacoma, WA and seek
employment as a carpenter. In the 1930's Raymond served in the Civilian
Conservation Corps and helped with many of the improvements in Mt. Rainier
National Park. Before World War II, he managed one the Washington State
Liquor Stores in Tacoma and married Kathleen E. Hill in 1940. Before his
enlistment in the United States Marine Corps, they had one son, John. During
the war years, he became a Marine Corporal while serving in the South
Pacific. After the war, another son, Paul, was born while Ray sold carpeting
and furniture at Schoenfield's in Tacoma. The family moved to Southern
California in 1948 and Ray continued his career in retailing. Another son,
Gregory, was born in 1958 when the family resided in San Bernardino. In
1965, Ray and Kathleen divorced and Ray remarried and moved back to
Washington State. He was employed by Reinell Boats until his retirement in
1979. He then settled in Snohomish with his third wife Jeanette. While a
resident of Snohomish, he became an avid wood carver and taught carving at
the Snohomish Senior Center. As a member of the Quilceda Carvers, he won
many awards in both local and state competitions. He was an active member
of Everett's Bethany Christian Assembly. In 2000, he relocated to Everett to
assisted living and nursing homes.
His passing on March 25, 2003 was at Stevens Hospital.
He is survived by three sons; three daughters-in-law; one stepson; six
