Robert Thomas Jolley

Oh by gosh by golly - Heaven’s received another Jolley
Bob was born in Jefferson City, Missouri on April 4,
1927 the youngest of two boys to Eula and Virgil
Jolley. At an early age the family moved to
Tipptonville, Tenn. There amoung other things about
life on the river, he learned from his father to set
the navagational channel beacons on the Mississippi
River, without which the Navy, merchant and passenger
ships would have surely run aground. This experience
and his expertness on the river would lead to
receiving at the young age of 18, a Coast Guard
Captains License. His life on the water would continue
with his service in the Navy. After training on the
Great Lakes he was off to the Pacific Theater as an
LTS operator. He was on his way to Okanowa when the
Japenese capitulated. He was sent to Bremerton to
finish his naval duty. Astounded by the beauty that
was Puget Sound, he decided he would remain here
forever. Bob continued his career on the water with
Alaska Frieghtlines on the tug boats. He finally came
ashore to persue a career as an operations manager for
various trucking companies. In 1948 he married
Patricia Lane and added two girls and three boys to
the family. After 25 years they divorced and Bob met
and married Betty Jean Richardson in 1976. Betty
brought two boys and three girls to the marriage which
made for quite a brood. Bob was and outdoorsman,
hunter and great mechanic. Bob and Betty enjoyed thier
cabin and fishing in Packwood for over 25 years. Our
good kind and loving God allowed Bob to die peacefully
at home as per his wishes. He was predeceased by his
daughter P.J. Eakin (2002) wife Betty Jean (2006)
brother Gaylord (2007) son Doug (2007) and son Robin
1-3-2008. We who are left behind say “Goodbye” to
another one of the ‘greatest generation’. You will be
missed. Surviving Bob are his children Greg and Bec,
five step children, grandchildren, cousins, nephews
and friends. Funeral mass to be celebrated Jan. 25 at
6pm concurrent with his son Robin in St. Charles
Bomerreo Catholic Church. 7112 12th ST., Tacoma,
