Hazel Brooks Jepson

Hazel Jepson was born in Pennsylvania on July 18, the year will be her secret,
to Mary and Richard Brooks. She died August 13, 2003. As a young woman,
her passion was swimming. While swimming for the Washington Athletic
Club, Hazel was a member of the relay team that won in the Women#s
National Championship in 1934. She graduated from Franklin High School
and the University of Washington. She and Frank (Jep) Jepson were married
March 15, 1938, and after his tour of duty in WWII, they moved to Lakewood
where they built their home on Steilacoom Lake. They spent many fun-filled
days water skiing and swimming, but the garden was their focus. After Jep#s
death in 1980, Hazel continued creating an impressive landscape around her
home and planted, shaped and maintained many lovely Bonsai trees. For
several years before his death in 1988, Hazel and Frank Neff, of Bainbridge
Island, enjoyed a close friendship, spending time in Borrego Springs,
California, and traveling. Hazel is survived by her niece, Judith Dixon of
Kenai, Alaska; Hazel#s Helpers, her neighbors and many friends. She will be
sorely missed by her three beloved kitties, and by the birds and wildlife she
supported faithfully. Hazel#s Helpers would like to thank Tacoma Lutheran
Home for their care and comfort given during her last few months. Hazel
touched all who knew her with her charm and sense of humor. By her request
there will be no formal memorial service. Thank you for sharing her life and
when you think of Hazel, remember how much she loved you all and smile.
