Virginia Hammond JEFFREY

Virginia Hammond Jeffrey died in St. Paul, Minn., on September 14, 2003.
Born in Fulton, MO., in 1910, she graduated from William Woods College in
Fulton and from the University of Missouri. Before her marriage to Kirk
Jeffrey, a lawyer and banker, in 1941, she worked in Council Bluffs, IA., and
St. Louis as a teacher of deaf children. Virginia and Kirk had three children
and resided in St. Louis area, later in Palo Alto, Calif. They retired to Seattle
where they lived at Horizon House, 1984-96. They moved to St. Paul in 1996.
Virginia was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1973, but outstanding
medical treatment and her own positive spirit kept the disease at bay for more
than 25 years. She enjoyed cooking, pottery, and jewelrymaking: her love of
travel took her to many countries including Ecuador, Japan, and China.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Kirk and her sister Majorie
Hammond. She is survived by her sister Elizabeth H. Rowland of
Swarthmore, PA., her brother Ralph D. Hammond (Edith Hammond) of
Pittsburgh, her sons Kirk Jeffrey (Frances Long) of St. Paul and Charles
Jeffrey (Nancy Stout) of Northampton, Mass., her daughter Dana Lee (Kai
Lee) of Williamstown, Mass., ten grandchildren, and seven great-
grandchildren. Private services. Memorials preferred to the Northwest
