| Seattle musician, Herschel Dee Jones, passed peacefully on January 1, 2001. Born in Kansas City, MO in 1917, he began his musical career as a trombone player in the 1930's. After two decades of touring coast to coast, he moved to Seattle seeking a simpler life in 1957. He found a deep and abiding comfort in Bible studies at the Lutheran Bible Institute, where he also earned a reputation as an artistic landscaper and meticulous gardener. In the 1960's he demonstrated his amazing musical versatility by switching his emphasis from trombone to electric base. He was preceded by his wife, and the love of his life, Florence in 1998. They enjoyed their retirement years in Bering, Washington after his 7 year career at The Boeing Company. He leaves behind 6 adoring stepchildren, and son John Jones, a resident of Kansas City, MO. He will be remembered for the joy he brought to his family and friends, and his artistic expression of music, landscaping, woodwork and photography. Memorial Service: Saturday, January 6, 11 a.m., Dayspring and Fitch Funeral Home, 5503 Rainier Avenue S. Seattle, followed by a jam session at the Lakewood Community Center. Call: (206)568- 3353. |
