HOPKINS, Doris Wiegand (Age 87)

Passed away on July 30, 2006 in Spokane, WA. Doris was
born June 8, 1919 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She was
the only child of Burton and Ethel Wiegand. She
graduated valedictorian from West Pittston High School
and attended Bucknell Junior College and later
Bucknell University. While at Bucknell, she was a
member of the Delta, Delta, Delta sorority. In 1941,
she married Robert Hopkins and in a few years moved to
Richland, WA, where she was employed by Dupont at the
Hanford Nuclear Plant. While in Richland, she was very
active in the Richland Guild of the Seattle Children's
Orthopedic Hospital. She served as staff assistant for
the Red Cross, Ways & Means Chairman of the
Jayceettes, and president of the Woman's Club. In
1957, she moved to Spokane where she became the first
life master of Duplicate Bridge in Eastern Washington.
When her children were grown, she worked a few tax
seasons for H&R Block and retired in 1984 from office
manager for the Monarch Life Insurance Company. She
was a former member of the Manito Presbyterian Church,
the American Contract Bridge League, Spokane Club,
Manito Country Club, and the Spokane Country Club. She
is survived by three sons, seven grandchildren and one
great-grandchild: Dr. Randy Hopkins and wife Lauren of
Hayden, ID (son Bryan); Larry Hopkins and wife Chris
of Spokane, WA (sons Christopher and Jeremy); Gary
Hopkins and wife Judy of Malawi, Africa (daughters
Jamie, Jessie, Lindsay and son Zachary). A Viewing
will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Monday,
August 21, 2006, 10 AM until 5 PM. A Memorial Service
will be held on August 22, 2006 at 10:30 AM at
Heritage Funeral Home.
