Walter H. "Bud" HECKEL

Born in Webster Groves, Missouri September 27, 1920;
died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on
Thursday, October 6, 2005. Bud served in WWII on the
U.S.S. Cuyama as a 1st Class Gunners Mate. He met his
wife, Mary, at the Seattle U.S.O. and they were
married October 9, 1944. Bud and Mary had seven
children, twelve grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren. Bud worked as credit manager in
the fishing industry, served one year as president of
NACM, and retired from Icicle Seafoods in 1986. He
spent his retirement years serving the people of St.
John Catholic Church and Ballard Convalescent Home as
a lay presider. He loved using his woodworking and
handyman skills to help others. He was the friendly
neighbor who freely loaned his tools. His greatest
joys were his family, fishing trips, country music,
baseball and poker. He was devoted to daily Mass and
the Rosary. He was an honorable and faithful man. Bud
is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary ; and
is the loving father of Bud (Janice), Theresa, David
(Patty), Janey Hamilton, Virginia Redden (Vern), Joe,
and Peter (Judy); grandfather of Jason, Jeff, Jeanna,
Jennifer, Matthew, Michelle, Jeff, Kevin, Janelle,
Jon, Blair and Brooke; great-grandfather of, Alex,
Amanda, Emily, Emma Grace, Micah and Mikayla.
Recitation of the Rosary will be Tuesday, October
11th, at 7 p.m. at Hoffner Fisher & Harvey Chapel
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, October
12th, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church,
121 North 80th St., Seattle. Interment, Holyrood
Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the St. John
Chapter of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 121 North
80th St., Seattle, WA 98103; or Mercy Corps
International, 100 8th Ave. N. E., Suite 900,
Bellevue, WA 98004.
