Margaret K. "Peggy" McDowell HICKEL

82, devoted wife, loving mother, grandmoth er, and great grandmother,
and good friend to many, passed away August 7, 2002 from the effects
of ALS. Born July 11, 1920 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylva nia, the third
daughter of James and Elizabeth Kerr, she married Thomas Paul
McDow ell June 10, 1938. Paul and Peggy moved to Seattle in 1943,
and raised their three sons there. After 45 years of marriage he
preceded her in death June 23, 1983. Two years later she wed Francis
"Frank" Hickel on August 1, 1985. They had 10 wonder ful years
together before he preceded her in death December 24, 1995. Frank
had five sons from his prior marriage. Peggy was a founding member of
the Skyway United Methodist Church; she taught Sunday School and
was very active in the Church. She was very proud of her activities as a
member of King County Homemakers and King County 4H. She was
also active in the Skyway Com munity Club, Renton School District
PTA, a den member for a Cub Scout troop, and found ed the Women's
Auxiliary in the South East Limits Little League. Peggy loved dancing to
big band and swing; was an avid bowler for 40 years; was a dedi cated
fan of Mariner baseball, Husky and Seahawk football, and unlimited
hydroplanes. She also loved travel, and especially enjoyed her visits to
Hawaii and Las Vegas. Peggy will be lovingly remembered by her
surviving sister, Elizabeth Tate; her three sons and their wives, Tom and
Sharon McDowell, Terry and Linda McDowell, and Dale and Jean
McDowell; her six grandchil dren; her two great grandchildren, Frank
Hickel's sons and their families; and her many friends. In lieu of flowers,
please send remembrances to Providence Hospice of Seattle or the
University of Washington Muscular Dystro phy Clinic. Viewing will be
August 9 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and August 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
at Yarington's Funeral Home (White Center). A Graveside Service will
be held at Washing ton Memorial Park (SeaTac) on Monday, August
12, at 11:30 a.m. A Memorial Service will also be held at Skyway
United Methodist Church on Wednes day, August 28, at 6 p.m.
