A memorial service will be held on January 21, 2000, for Olive
Rebecca (Betty) Hill. The service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the United
Church in University Place, at 40th and Grandview. Betty, the mother
of Jean Brooks, Mayor Pro Tem of University Place, died Wednesday,
January 12, 2000. The family thanks Dr. Joanne Brown, pastor of
United Church, for assisting us with starting this new journey for mom.
Mom and dad's ashes will be scattered together in Rocky's Garden at
the Eugene United Methodist Church in a special Memorial Service to
be held February 1, 2000 in Eugene, Oregon. Mom was born August
20, 1918, in Kittanning, Pennsylvania, to Agnes and Thomas Hudson.
She married dad - her soul mate - Charles Hill on March 5, 1938. She
lived most of her life in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania. She and dad
moved to Eugene, Oregon after his retirement in 1974. Mom devoted
most of her life to volunteering in the Methodist Church and as the
coordinator for volunteers of the Eugene/Springfield American Red
Cross. She began as a Gray Lady with the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Chapter of the American Red Cross in 1958. She also had a special
place in her heart for the Pearl Buck Center in Eugene, Oregon. Mom
was a person of great faith and inner strength and shared this faith and
strength with all those she touched, especially her daughter. She moved
to Tacoma a little over a year ago to be closer to her daughter Jean and
her husband Harvey. She also spent that year making new friends and
getting well acquainted with her great granddaughter Victoria Booker
Brooks. Betty is survived by her daughter Jean and her husband
Harvey; her grandson Clifford and his wife Joyre; her great
granddaughter Victoria, her devoted "second" daughter Dorothy Hull;
her new friends and Tacoma caregivers Arlene, Linda, Terrisita and
Gerry and her hairdresser/listener Roz. She also enjoyed the
companionship of Sophie and Cleo. She is also survived by her brother
and sister-in-law Marion and Keith Collins of Indianapolis, Indiana,
their son Scott and his wife Tami and their baby; her nieces and
nephews Jack, Larry, Ronnie, Maida, Nina Lee, Tommy and all of their
families. Jean and Harvey wish to thank the many others at Crossings,
the nurses and doctors at St. Joseph's Clinic, Hospital and the
Franciscan Care Center, who all showed great caring and compassion
toward mom. We also want to thank all of our Social and Health
Services Credit Union Staff, especially Thea, Mary Ann, Ed and Jackie
and also Darryl Jensen for the care, advise and respect given mom by
everyone. Contributions may be made in mom's name - Betty Hill - to
the Community Breast Cancer Awareness Center, 4002 South 12th
Street, Tacoma, WA 98405. Pub Date: 1/16/2000
