| Alfred Earl Harflinger Jr. (Shadow) Alfred Earl Harflinger Jr., age 48, a resident of the Key Peninsula area, passed away Sunday (Father's Day), June 20, 1999. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he served with the U.S. Marines in Vietnam from 1968 to 1971 and was missing in action for a brief time. For his bravery, Al received Commendations and recognition, including a South Vietnamese award. Al was known to have said, " When I first arrived in Vietnam, I didn't see a war, I just saw a lot of short people trying to save their homes." Surviving are his wife Gail of Vaughn, WA; son Sean Harflinger and wife Dawn, and Al's only granddaughter, Megan, of Portland, OR; daughter Tamara Harflinger, currently serving in the Navy in San Diego, CA; Daniel and Chandra Perry and Constance Perry, all of Pierce County. Also surviving are 1 sister, Lynn Kaplan and husband Randy; also Bobbie Lynn, Christina, Tony and Jeffrey of Pittsburgh, PA, who Al dearly loved. Memorial services will be held Monday, June 28, 1999, 10:00 AM at the American Lake V.A. Hospital Chapel. Graveside services will follow with full U.S. Marine honors in the afternoon at 2:00 PM at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA. Memorial donations would be appreciated, in lieu of flowers, to the D.A.V. Harmony Chapter 18 of Tacoma. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. 584-0252.
