1969-2008
Heather Hartley departed the world on Oct. 4, 2008, at age 39. A celebration of her life will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at Menucha Retreat Center in Corbett.
Heather Lynne Hartley was born on July 18, 1969, in St. Charles, Mo. She earned her bachelor's degree at the Univer-sity of Missouri and her Ph.D in sociology at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Heather was a tenured professor of sociology at Portland State University. She was an inspiring humanist who cared deeply about the suffering of others.
Survivors include her husband, Jeff Gersh; daughter, Maya Hartley Gersh; mother, Elaine Hartley; and father, Roy Hartley.
