Cecily Fleetwood Forbes GARRETSON

82, of San Diego, CA., died peacefully after a long illness on July 24,
2002. She is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Brigadier
General Frank E. Garretson, USMC (Ret.), her loving children, John
Garretson, Capt. MC USN (Ret.), of Farmington, N.M., Cecily
Parsons, of Poway, CA., Sarah Jane Zimmer man, of Big Pine, CA.;
eight grandchildren, four step grandchildren, and two great grand
children. Born in Kansas City, MO., her fami ly later moved to Seattle,
WA. where she at tended public schools, was a member of Kap pa
Kappa Gamma sorority, and received her AB degree from the
University of Washington in 1941. After WWII she moved with her hus
band and growing family to Georgia, Virgin ia, Hawaii, California, and
Washington, D.C. At each location she became a dynamic force in a
variety of activities; she taught and prac ticed art therapy at St.
Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington, .C.; she was Chairwoman of Red
Cross Volunteers, in Quantico, VA.; she was President of the PTA at
John Eaton School in Washington, D.C., and she was a Cub Scout Den
Leader in both San Diego and Washing ton, D.C. A loving wife and
mother, she was also a talented artist in a variety of media, producing
several hundred pieces which are displayed in homes across the
country. She studied eastern philosophy with Krishnamurti and she
loved music of all kinds. An avid read er, she loved the New Yorker
Magazine, Na tional Geographic and British mysteries. Her family and
friends will miss her terribly and will celebrate her life with a Memorial
Ser vice on July 29th at Clairemont Mortuary at 4 p.m. In lieu of
flowers, the family requests do nations to San Diego Hospice.
