LEWIS L. GORDON

(MAJOR RETIRED) Lewis Layton Gordon was born at Ft.
Hauchuca, Arizona, September 10, 1928, and departed this life March
3, 2000 at Madigan Army Medical Center. He graduated from West
Virginia State College with a degree in Political Science and History,
later receiving a masters degree from Pacific Lutheran University. Lewis
served 20 years in the military as an artillery officer, serving in Germany,
Korea and Vietnam. He received many awards and citations, including
the Bronze Star. He later retired from a second job as a Contract
Administrator with Boeing Company. In 1953 Lewis met and married
Sarah Sammons, a marriage that lasted 46 years. At an early age,
Lewis accepted Christ and was an active member of Allen AME
Church. Lewis enjoyed bowling, camping, bingo and traveling. He was
a member of the Masonic family Cassia Lodge #5, Cascadian
Consistory #75 and Sigma Phi Beta Fraternity. In 1999 Lewis Gordon
was preceded in death by his only son, Donald. He leaves, to cherish
his memories, his loving wife Sarah, daughter Lynda Hadley and her
husband George, granddaughter Janine Gordon of Germany, sister Ivey
Wynn of Seattle, godson Bruce Morris (Karen), and a host of relatives
and friends. Funeral services with Military Honors will be conducted at
Allen AME Church, Friday, March 10 at 11:00 a.m.; The Rev. Joseph
C. Nixon will be officiating. Viewing begins Thursday, March 9 from
2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home 584-0252.
