Lucille Gates
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, in Bronleewe-Bass Funeral Home for Lucille Gates, who died Aug. 22 of heart disease at age 88. Mrs. Gates was born May 15, 1912, in Burlington Junction, Mo. Her maiden name was Swaney. She moved to Salem in 1940 and to Forest Grove in 1960. A homemaker, she also was a dry cleaning marker for Davis Laundry in Hillsboro for several years in the 1960s and was an apartment manager in Portland and Tigard in the 1970s. In 1930, she married Will Gates; he died in 1977.
Survivors include her sons, Kirby K. and Robert R.; daughters, Nola Anderson and Mary Anne Long; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Private interment will be in Fir Lawn Cemetery in Hillsboro. The family suggests remembrances to the American Heart Association.
