Leslie Carrell FREEMAN, Sr.
February 13, 1923 - January 20, 2005 Of Bend, Oregon, died Thursday of natural
causes. He was 82. Funeral Services will he held at 2:30 PM Monday, January 24,
2005 at the Acacia Funeral Home Chapel, 14951 NE Bothell Way, Seattle, WA 98155
with Full Military honors and interment to follow. Mr. Freeman was born on February 13,
1923 in Butler, MO. to Gerald and Lilly (Frank) Freeman. He married Ruth V. Geise on
July 8, 1945 in Seattle, WA. During World War II, Mr. Freeman flew 20 B-17 combat
missions over northern France and Germany where his plane was shot down and he
became a German prisoner of war. He retired from the Air Force after 20 years of
service in 1962. He also served in the Africa-Middle East Campaign, Alaska, and Korea
and nine years as Intelligence Operations Superintendent, Director of Threat
Assessment and Deputy Chief of Staff/ Intelligence, Headquarters North American
Defense Command. Mr. Freeman was awarded the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf
Clusters, The Air Force Commendation Medal, Purple Heart and numerous other
awards. Living in Seattle, Mr. Freeman was the owner-operator of a wholesale
greenhouse in north Seattle and Bothell, Washington until his retirement in 1987.
Survivors include his wife Ruth, son Leslie Jr. and daughter-in-law Michele of Bend,
Oregon, son-in-law Jack Irby of Seattle, daughter-in-law Tracy Freeman of Gig Harbor,
six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter
Virginia A. Irby, a son Ray V. Freeman and brother Clayton Freeman.
