Marie Earley-White

Marie Josephine (Jo) Earley-White passed away on
December 28, 2006 at the age of 91. Jo was born on
December 26, 1915 in Hamilton, Bermuda. She was one of
three children born to Roy Earley and Adeline Valin.
As a young woman, Jo enjoyed playing piano, performing
ballet, acting in theatre, working with water colors
and water sports. During WWII, she was active in the
local USO that entertained allied military personnel.
It was during this time that she met her husband,
Stephen White, who was stationed on the Island. After
the war, she immigrated to the US where she raised
seven children at various military bases in
California, Alaska and Washington. The family made
Tacoma, WA, its permanent home in the late 1950#s and
Jo resided there for the remainder of her life. She
always kept Bermuda in her heart and enjoyed countless
trips back to the Island with her children and her
grandchildren. After raising her children, she worked
at North Star Glove for 14 years. After retiring in
1987, she enjoyed helping others and making new
friends by volunteering at the Hospitality Kitchen at
St. Leo#s Church. Her main passion was collecting
teapots and anything with a teapot theme (she left
behind over 300 teapots!). For many years, she
delighted in taking all of her grandchildren to see
the Nutcracker at Christmastime. She was a member of
Holy Rosary Parish where three generations of her
children attended school. She was preceded in death by
her sister and brother, Yvonne and T.V. Earley, as
well as her son Bruce David White. She leaves behind
her children, Jorja Zacher (Daniel), Stephen Jeffrey
White, Joel White (Susan), Jonathan White (Debbie),
Joanne Beyer (Michael) and Joseph White, niece
Elizabeth Young (David) of Somerset, Bermuda, along
with 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be held at 6PM on January 2, 2007 at St.
Joseph Catholic Church, 608 S. 34th St. Funeral
service will be held at 11AM, January 3, 2007, at the
same location. The family requests that in lieu of
flowers, donations be made to the Franciscan Hospice
and Holy Rosary School, both located in Tacoma, WA.
