Thane Lionel CARPENTER

Passed away August 11, 2002 Born in Oakland, Ca, the oldest of six
sisters and one brother. He left home to join the Coast Guard at a
young age and, for 12 years sailed to many foreign ports. He was
stationed in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island when he met his wife of
38 years, Beatrice Boyce. They had two daughters, Tammy and Gail.
After leaving the Coast Guard, Thane worked for 20 years as a marine
machinist. During the earlier years, his hobby was racing stock cars on
the figure eight track in Monroe. A stroke forced him to retire in 1992.
During those last 10 years he enjoyed traveling to Thailand, the
Caribbean, Canada, and many states here in the U.S. with his wife and
grandsons, Matthew, Brian, and Jonathan. Thane was a Diabetic,
diagnosed in his 30's and had been on kidney dialysis for the last 18
months of his life. Diabetes was the major cause of all his health
problems, including the end of his life on April 11th. His family wishes,
on his behalf, to have memorial contributions made to the American
Diabetes Association in his name. Thane is also survived by his mother,
Pauline Bell, sisters Carla Lazelle, Margaret George and Ann Castro of
California, sister Arainia Shaffer of Pennsylvania, and his brother
William of Renton, Washington. Thanes final wishes were to be
returned to California and laid to rest with his father at Winters
Cemetery. A separate Memorial Service for his friends and family in
Washington will be held on April 27th at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian
Church of Renton at 2640 Benson Road S.
