| Harold R. Carter died Feb. 5, 2001, at age 80. A private service was held. Mr. Carter was born Oct. 31, 1920, in Bolivar, Mo., and was raised in Redlands, Calif. In 1941, he moved to Portland and was a welder in the shipyards during World War II. After the war, he was a welder for Gabriel Boilers and for Willamette Industries, retiring in 1983. In 1941, he married L. Fern Shanklin; she died in 1994. |
| Survivors include his son, Russ; daughter, Rita; brothers, Frank and Arnold; sister, Katherine Thompson; and one grandchild. His daughter Linda died in 1960. |
| Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Portland. Arrangements are by Wilhelm Funeral Home. |
