Barbara Jean Johnson BUCKLES

Grandma "Bobbie" February
23, 1926 - March 22, 2004 Barbara died peacefully
surrounded by the love of her family after a year with
cancer. Barbara was born in San Francisco to Elgin
Earl and Elizabeth Jeannette Newhall. She met handsome
and wonderful Merchant Marine Officer Ensign H. Glenn
Johnson at the wedding of her friend. They married
just after World War II in San Francisco, where their
first son Larie was born. They moved to Seattle and
had four more children; Merry, Jeanie, Shirley and
David. The family was always very close, celebrating
often together and making lasting memories on Hat
Island and on their boat in the San Juans. She
attended Griffin Murphy Business College, and Highline
Community College. She worked for the Whistlestop
Dance Company, Alaskan Copper and Brass, and the
Educational Service District Number 402. She also
tutored may young students in reading and English as a
second language and in Christian beliefs. She married
Mel Buckles in 1993. They shared a strong faith and
love of travel. Barbara enjoyed many happy times at
the Washington Coast, Seahurst Park, and Gold Bar. She
adored her dogs Corky I and II, and her fat, orange,
kitty Lucybelle. Barbara had a way of seeing the good
in every person she met. She had many adopted children
and friends through her life. She will remain in the
hearts of her husband Melvin Buckles; her children,
Larie Johnson (Connie Nickerson), Meredith Shropshire
(Steve Shropshire), Jeanette Johnson, Shirley (Bret
Gilbertson), David Johnson (Terri Johnson); and her
beloved grandchildren, Mark Shropshire (Mari Ann
Braeden), Matthew (Erika Shropshire), Bryan Irvine
(Sheila Irvine), Robin Irvine, Erin Gilbertson, Chris
Johnson, Nick Johnson, and Chiffon Larrison. She was
also filled with love for her great- grandchildren;
Damien, Katie, Elias, Colby, Isaiah, and Gabriel. She
found joy in her faith and in her family and many
friends and was a breath of fresh air to everyone she
came in contact with. A celebration of Barbara's life
will be held at the Church of God - Holiness, located
at 22809 Military Road South - SeaTac, WA 98188, on
Friday March 26th at 3:00 p.m. Donations can be made
to the Youth Group at Church of God-Holiness in lieu
of flowers.
