Patricia ("Patty") BROOK

Patricia Lynn Brook, 59, a 25-year resident of Mercer Island, died
March 17, 2002, in Indian Wells, California. She was born on June 9,
1942 to Galard Judson Slonaker and Glenna Gould Slonaker in Los
Angeles. She began dating Ray Brook at California High School in
Whittier, California, and the couple was married four years later on
March 31, 1962 in Las Vegas. They had one child, Ron, who died of
Cystic Fibrosis in 1989, at the age of twenty-six. Patty graduated from
Fullerton Junior College in 1962, with honors, and was recognized at
graduation as the "Outstanding Secretarial Student". During her lifetime,
she lived in Long Beach, Whittier, and Walnut in Southern California,
followed by four years near Sacramento, in Elk Grove, California;
Cincinnati and Mercer Island. She was an executive administrator for
Catalina Swimwear in Los Angeles for eight years; city hostess for the
Elk Grove Chamber of Commerce for four years; secretary for
Northwest Employee Relations of Mercer Island for two years; social
director for the Mercer Island Beach Club for three years; and vice
president, chief financial officer for Summit Seekers, a non-profit
corporation the past two years. Patty belonged to the Mercer Island
Women's Club, and was a former president of this club. She had been
active in many Mercer Island activities, including Summer Celebration.
She belonged to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Guild, and had been
active in the Mothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. She had been
active in women's competitive tennis and had belonged to a U.S.T.A.
team for over ten years. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, golf,
boating, bridge, and travel. Patty was known by her family and friends
as bright, forthright and spirited, fun- loving, while also a dedicated
nurturer and care-giver. She is survived by her husband, Ray of Mercer
Island; and her brother, Michael Slonaker of Santa Barbara. A
Memorial Service will be held on April 11, 2002, at 1:00 p.m. in
Bellevue, at the Westminster Chapel, 13646 N.E. 24th Street.

corporation dedicated to youth leadership education, 7800 W. Mercer
Way, Mercer Island.
