Marcella Irene Bowen
---
Marcella, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother, stepped into the presence of her Lord and Redeemer on January 24, 2001.
Marcella was born in Henpeck, Missouri on December 28, 1914, the eldest of Doyle and Lura Coleman's six daughters. Marcella moved with her husband and first three children to Ferndale, Wash. in September 1945. The family, which now included the three younger children, gave up farming in 1956, and moved to Everett. Marcella joined the school cooks staff of the Everett School District in 1960, and worked at North Junior High School, Cascade High School and Evergreen Middle School until her retirement in 1976. Following her retirement she and Lem enjoyed the use of their travel trailer at Lake Connor Park. They also made several trips to Missouri to visit family there. Mom and dad came out of retirement to manage a senior apartment complex in Lake Stevens and eventually in Issaquah. Until moving to Issaquah, Marcella was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church. Marcella moved back to Everett in 1996 following a debilitating stroke, and has resided at Bethany on Broadway at Pacific until her death.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lemuel C. Bowen; and a granddaughter, Leann Hendricks.
Marcella is survived by her five sisters, Wilma Lynch, Mary Juanita Bachman, Amy and husband James Stone, and Alta and husband Harry Kolaks, all of St. Louis, and Sylvia and husband William Boone of Lynnwood; her six children, John and wife Nancy Bolle, Dolores Van Winkle, Gregory and wife Donna Kuper, Steven and wife Deanna Kuper, Alan Bowen, and Janet and husband Brian Sullivan; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews here and in Missouri.
Arrangements are under the care of Evergreen Funeral Home. There will be no memorial service other than a private service for the family.
Marcella's family wish to express our deepest gratitude and admiration for the staff of Bethany at Pacific for the last few years of excellent care, but especially for becoming part of our extended family through their love and devotion to the needs of our mother and the other residents of Bethany.
