Joyce M. BEACH Was carried peacefully home in the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, to her final rest on May 28, 2007. She was born Joyce McMillan to Violet (Dixon) McMillan and Jock McMillan on November 4, 1920, in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. She was joined by her brother, Jack four years later. In 1924, the family moved to Seattle and eventually settled in the Rainier Valley. She attended Brighton Grade School and graduated from Franklin High School in 1938. She married Chauncey T. Beach on August 31, 1940. They lived in Daly City, California; Anchorage, Alaska and Great Falls, Montana, before returning to their beloved Seattle, where they purchased the home she lived in for almost the next 50 years. She loved family, friends, music, new adventures and the arts. She and her husband thoroughly enjoyed traveling and covered the United States, Canada and Europe by automobile, train and air many times. They made the 4700-mile round trip between Anchorage and Seattle on the brand-new Alcan Highway in a 1939 Chrysler four times between 1946 and 1949. She raised her family, served her community and ran her own business until she was 82. She worked for prominent Seattle businessman, George Pallis for almost 40 years, and enjoyed a close relationship with George and his wife, their children and grandchildren as well. Joyce took pleasure in season tickets to the Paramount and Fifth Avenue Theaters and the Seattle Symphony for many years. She and her husband freely gave of their time and talents to their church, two Girl Scout troops and the Seattle-King County Girl Scout Council, the Presbyterian Mariners, the Seattle-King County Emergency Feeding Program, The Friends of Youth, the League of Women Voters and other numerous charities. During her lifetime, she faithfully worshipped at Brighton, Beacon Hill and Rainier Beach Presbyterian Churches in Seattle and Lakewood Presbyterian Church near Tacoma. Throughout her final illness during the last five years, she continued to enjoy visits from friends and family, take day trips, have tea parties, go to church and up until ten days before her death, played the piano for the enjoyment of others. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988 and her son-in-law, Bill in 2001. She is survived by her daughters, Beth and Peggy, her son-in-law, Larry, her grandsons, Brian, Dana and Scott, her granddaughters-in-law, Karen and Sarah, and her great-grandsons, David and Liam. She is also survived by her brother, Jack and his wife, Jeanne, and many brothers- and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews in her large extended family. Her family invites her many beloved friends and family members to join them in a Celebration of her Life on Saturday, June 23, 2007, at the Rainier Beach Presbyterian Church in Seattle at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable gifts may be given in her memory to The Friends of Youth, the Seattle- King County Emergency Feeding Program, the League of Women Voters or a charity of your choice.
