Genevieve A. Benim
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, in Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church for Genevieve A. Benim, who died Sept. 29 at age 77. Mrs. Benim was born March 31, 1923, in Fryburg, Pa. Her maiden name was Lauer. She lived in Erie, Pa., from 1946 until 1965 when she moved to Rochester, N.Y. She moved to Portland in 1971 and was an assistant in the mortgage department at U.S. Bank for 10 years until retiring. She was a member of the church. In 1946, she married Robert "Ward" Benim.
Survivors include her husband; daughter, Kathryn Bascom; sons, Richard, Daniel, Joseph and Matthew; brother, Martin Lauer; sisters, Anna Rose Schupp, Eileen Work and Edna Whiting; and three grandchildren. Her son Gary died in 1999.
Interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to St. Vincent de Paul. Arrangements are by Mt. Scott Funeral Home.
