| VIOLET RUTH ADAMS Violet Ruth Adams, one of God#s special creations, left us to sit at His side on Wednesday, 14 April 2004. She was born Violet Ruth Maher in Bisbee, Arizona on 1 July 1919. She attended Bisbee High School and the University of Arizona. In 1937 she married her high school sweetheart, Bill Adams, and in 1938 she had a son, Frank. When Bill took a commission in the Army in 1941, it started an adventure that took her all over the United States and to many foreign countries. During the difficult war years of 1941 to 1944, she created #home# for Bill and Frank at 11 different locations and from 1945 to 1970, she did that again 15 more times. No matter where she was or what the circumstances, she created a warm, comfortable, loving place of refuge from the daily challenges that life presents us with. In addition, as a military wife, she was tireless over the years in her efforts to help and assist Air Force families and individual service men and women. After Bill retired in 1970, they settled in Waco, Texas for 23 years and in 1993, she and Bill moved to the Village Retirement Community in Tacoma. Vi focused her efforts on taking care of him, the #family# (her mom, son, daughters-in-law and grandchildren), and staying active with the many dear, close friends they established over the years. She also stayed active as a hospital volunteer and in church work. Vi was preceded in death by her soul mate of 58 years, Bill, in 1995. Her survivors include her son Frank, his wife Joanne and the grandchildren, Gary of Arlington, TX and Vicki of Houston, TX. She also leaves behind members of her extended family and many dear, dear friends. Vi was known to all who ever knew her to be the perfect wife and mother, a loving grandmother and a loving and faithful friend. Her loss is eased by the fact she passed quietly and peacefully. This was an extraordinary, wonderful lady and she will be missed very, very much. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, 2 May, at the First Presbyterian Church, 1250 Emerson St. (40th Street be-tween Alameda and 67th), Fircrest, WA. This will be followed by a family graveside service in the Veteran#s Honor Garden at the New Tacoma Cemetery, University Place, WA. Pub Date: 4/28/2004 Tacoma News Tribune |
