| William T. Atkins (Bill) Bill Atkins of Kapaa, Hawaii, died suddenly December 8, 1998 at the age of 80. He was born in Pennsylvania on May 14, 1918. He was a retired insurance executive and attorney. He retired from United Pacific/Reliance Insurance Co. of Tacoma in 1981. Retirement did not mean stop for Bill, it only meant pursuing wann'a do's instead of gott'a do's. He moved to Kauai, Hawaii, with his wife, Elena, and became active in the community and his church, acting as president, treasurer and committee member of Nuhou Corp., Kauai Concert Assoc.; Board of Directors for the Kauai Assn. Music Society, Honolulu; Na Lima Kakua the Volunteers of the Nat. Tropical Botanical Garden, Kauai; Interfaith Council; Waioli Corp.-Grove Farm Homestead Museum, Hanalie Mission House Museum, Lihue; Kauai Orchid Society; and Treasurer of the Kauai Interfaith Iniki Recovery Effort in Lihue, where he managed and disbursed over a million dollars of hurricane relief contributions. He was listed in various Who's Who publications. He was a member of the Lihue United Church, serving as Chairman of the Finance Committee, Moderator, and on the Board of Trustees. He also was a member of the Board of Directors of the Hawaii United Methodist Union. He is survived by his loving wife, Elena, of Kauai; two daughters, Karen Birdsall (Tony) of Ferndale, WA, and Judith Karman (Ken) of Tacoma; one son, William Atkins, Jr. (Cathy) of Portland, OR; one stepdaughter, Sarah Ramsey of Tacoma; and grandchildren Tammy, Bethany, Debbie, Timothy, Billy and David. A memorial service will be held atUniversity Place Presbyterian Church, 8101 27th St. W., University Place, on Sunday, Dec. 20 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be given in Bill's name to the Mission Fund, or to the Imagine Building Campaign of University Place Church, where he had been a member.
