Bisiar, Edward Joseph and Florence Melusky

BISIAR, Edward Joseph (Age 85) BISIAR, Florence Melusky (Age
87) Edward Joseph Bisiar II passed away December 2, 2005 in
Lafayette, CA. He was born May 5,1920 in Duluth, MN to
Edward Joseph Bisiar and Anna Chapman-Bisiar. He was
preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Charles
Christopher Bisiar and his half brother Harry Jones . Florence
Melusky Bisiar recently passed away on June 30, 2010 in Liberty
Lake, WA. Florence was born to Joseph and Marion Melusky on
January 7, 1923 in Edwardsville, PA. She was preceded in death
by her parents and her brother, Joseph Melusky. Ed Bisiar and
Florence Melusky met while in the Navy. They married in 1948
and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where they settled in
Moraga, built their home and raised eight children. Florence
graduated from Laketon High School in Harvey Lake, PA. She
did her nurses training at Nesbitt Memorial Hospital in PA. She
was serving as a nurse at the Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, PA
during World War II when she met Ed. She attended Holy
Names College in Oakland, CA in the early 1950's. Ed built log
cabins as a youth, and won cross country races in high school.
After high school, he worked for Sperry Gyroscope in New
York on the Norden Bomb Sights, then for the US Navy and
Army Aircorps in the late 30's and early 40's. Ed joined the US
Navy in WWII where he logged in over 800 hrs flying blimps. He
was pilot and navigator in R5D's (DC-4) supplying the Flying
Tigers, flying over the hump from India to China. He received
his BS in Biology at St. Mary's College in Moraga in 1953 and
later earned his Masters of Science degree in Education from
CSU Hayward. Ed taught at Bishop O'Dowd in Oakland, Stanley
School in Lafayette, De Anza High School in El Sobrante, Santa
Maria in Orinda and Harry Els High School in Richmond. Both of
them stressed the importance of education to all their
children, always encouraging exploring and learning new
things in life. Ed became a Master Gardener after retirement.
Both Florence and Ed were very involved with gardening and
literally "living off the land". They maintained bee hives,
planted a large vegetable garden & preserved much of what
they grew. They also grew a variety of fruit trees, walnut trees,
and sold evergreens as live Christmas trees. Ed was actively
involved with the Moraga General Plan in the mid-50's. Both Ed
and Florence were involved in leadership of the Redwood 4-H
Club in the 60's and 70's. They also both worked as Precinct
Voting Officials in Moraga from the 1960's through the late
70's. Edward and Florence are survived by their eight children:
Ed, Chris, Rosemarie, Jim, Kathleen, Melanie, Greg, and Florie.
They are also survived by Florence's sister, Irene; six
grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A memorial
service and burial will take place at a later date at Northern
California Veterans Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be
made to Hospice of Spokane or the Alzheimer's Association .
