Bailey, John Almer Sr.

John Almer Bailey Sr. passed away on July 11, 2010 in Port
Townsend, WA. He was born on Sept 15, 1929 in Riverside,
California and spent the majority of his life in Washington
state, the last several years in Port Townsend. He retired after
nearly 40 years in the newspaper business including the
Portland Oregonian, Goldendale Sentinel, Daily Olympian, and
Tacoma News Tribune. John was an avid sailor, wood worker
and photographer. He enjoyed sailing many seasons in family
boats in the South Sound, the San Juans and further north. He
was instrumental in establishing the South Sound Sailing
Association in Olympia. Survivors include his best friend and
companion, Betty Champlin; his seven children, Megan (Al
Bergstein), Robin (Douglas Gould), Debi, John (Ann), Bill (Lisa),
Christian, and Jennifer, 11 grandchildren, and 8 great
grandchildren. He is also survived by his ex-wives, Jo Bailey of
Port Townsend and Patricia Bailey of Gig Harbor. Private
services are planned for family and close friends.
