Armstrong, Doris

Doris Armstrong Born on September 24, 1934 in Hollywood,
CA, and passed away peacefully at home on June 14, 2010.
Daughter of Cora and Howard Medd. Doris grew up in
Burbank, CA and married Reginald Armstrong on August 28,
1954. She raised three beautiful children, Linda, Curtis, and
Greg. She moved to Tucson in 1972 and lived in the Suffolk
Hills area. Doris held a variety of jobs until she began playing
tennis in 1972. She became a very active tennis player and
coach. She taught tennis for the Tucson Parks and Recreation
Dept. and played for Pima College during the 1990's. She was a
member of three local tennis clubs and ran the pro shop at the
Westward Look Resort, where she gained valuable
competetitive experience. She played tournaments all over the
United States and represented Arizona in the Senior Olympics,
winning many trophies and titles. She was named Arizona
Senior Sportswoman of the Year in 1999 by the Women's
Sports Foundation. That same year, she earned her Certified
Nursing Assistant's license and began caring for Alzheimer's
patients at Mountain View Care Center. Health reasons forced
her to retire in 2009. Services will be held Saturday, June 26,
2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon
Chapel at 8090 North Northern Ave., in Tucson.
