Carmen Botta August 25, 1919 - July 6, 2010 SALEM - Carmen
Botta, age 90, of Salem, died on July 6, 2010. Carmen was born
on August 25, 1919 in Santiago, Cuba to Enrique and Carmen
Botta. Carmen married Jose Juaquin Botta on October 4, 1940
in Havana, Cuba. Carmen had dreamed about coming to the
United States and she had the vision to migrate to the U.S. for
a better life for her family. She came to the United States in
1961 and became a U.S. citizen on May 1, 1972. She was a
member of St. Vincent Catholic Church where she was also a
Eucharistic minister. She worked for many years as a retail clerk
and enjoyed playing the piano, cooking, and going to the
movies. Carmen would want to be remembered for her strong
faith in God. She had a true passion for reading the Bible and
for prayer. She took great delight in her family and her life was
defined by her strength of character. Carmen also had a very
charismatic personality. She is survived by sons, John Botta,
Richard (Loretta) Botta, Robert (De Anna) Botta, all of Salem;
grandchildren, Robert Jose Botta, Scott Botta, and Ariel Crick;
as well as four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-
grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose
Juaquin Botta in April 1974. Visitation will be from 1 - 4 p.m.,
Monday, July 12, at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-
Ransom. A Rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 13
at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church followed by a Funeral
Mass at 11 a.m. also at St. Vincent Catholic Church. Burial will
take place at 2 p.m. at City View Cemetery. Family and friends
