Maclay, Jeane Frothingham

Jeane Frothingham Maclay Was born May 4, 1917 in Philadelphia
and died in Berkeley on March 16, 2010. She grew up in Los Altos.
During World War II she commuted by ferry to Mare Island, where
she produced blueprints for warships. As the war ended she
moved to New York City, where she met and married Robert
Cunningham Maclay. They lived in the Middle East, where Robert
worked in the oil business. In the 1960s the family returned to the
US and settled in Haddonfield, New Jersey. Jeane came back to
the Bay Area in 1986 and spent the rest of her life in Berkeley.
She lived at Redwood Gardens and made many new friends at the
North Berkeley Senior Center. A painter, Jeane exhibited with
Open Studios until she was almost 90. She also played the violin
and had a long-lasting interest in Jungian psychology. Jeane is
survived by her sister, Sue Foy, of Playa del Rey; a son, Robert
Frothingham Maclay, of Montclair, NJ; a daughter, Catherine
Maclay, of Berkeley; four grandchildren and one great-
grandchild; two nephews and a niece.
