Pomeroy, Roland Eugene

transitioned from his life here on earth to his new life in heaven
on May 19, 2010. He had struggled with Alzheimer's Disease for
many long years. Roland (Gene) was born in Mesa, Arizona on July
16, 1934 to Roland E. and Eleanor Stewart Pomeroy. His great
grandfather, Francis Martin Pomeroy, was one of four men
credited with establishing the settlement that eventually became
the City of Mesa. His family moved to Peoria, Arizona where his
father taught school and, in later years, became Peoria's first
Mayor. Gene attended Peoria Elementary School, until his father's
Army Reserve unit was activated for World War II. During the war
years, Gene lived with his family stationed at Ft. Sill, OK, Camp
Barkley, TX, Ft. Devens, MA, and Ft. Bragg, NC. After the war, the
family returned to Peoria where Gene became active in the Boy
Scouts, attaining rank of Eagle Scout. Gene graduated from
Peoria High School and went on to graduate from Arizona State
University. He and the former June Ann Guest were married in
Phoenix on February 10, 1961. Gene worked for H.R.B. Singer in
Rome, NY, Texas Instruments in Austin, TX, the City of Phoenix
and he retired from Arizona Public Service in 1997. He served in
the United States Air Force and retired from the United States
Army Reserves with 35 years of service. He is survived by his wife,
June, sister, Tanya Jorgensen (Carl), sons, Christopher (Sarah),
Timothy and Ryan and grandchildren, Ryann, Samantha, and
Nicholas. A "celebration of his life" will be held on Sat., June 19,
2010 in the chapel of the North Phoenix Baptist Church at 5757
N. Central Ave., Phx at 11 AM with a reception for friends and
family immediately following in the chapel hall. In lieu of flowers,
