Carberry, Gene K. Longtime Spokane Country Club golf professional, passed away on May 31, 2010 at Holy Family Hospital in Spokane, WA. He was adevoted husband, caringfather, good friend and will be greatly missed. Gene was born to Henry and Myrtle Carbery on March 19, 1928 in Spokane, WA. It seemed destined that he would end up in the golf profession. He was on the golf team at Lewis and Clark High School and worked at Indian Canyon Golf Course during high school and when he attended WSU and Gonzaga University. Gene's service in the Army even involved a golf course. He met the love of his life, Dixie, in Lewiston, Idaho where he was an assistant golf pro. They weremarried in 1951, and enjoyed many years together until her death in 2004. The years from 1952 to 1990 were spent at the Spokane Country Club where he took over as head pro in 1963. Gene was a lifetime member of the PGA and a member of the 50-year club. One of the highlights of his career was the Golf Exhibition in 1975 when he played with Jack Nicklaus, Johnny Miller and Rod Funseth. The many friends Gene made during this timeaffectionately called him "Geno". Gene enjoyed bird hunting and golfing with his sons, family vacations, and loved dogs. The family dog always seemed to be named after a golfing term. He was generous and had a lively sense of humor. He is survived by his three children: Michael (Christine) Carbery, Patrick Carbery (Janet Wylie), and Carrie Emery. He is also survived by his former daughter-in-law, Lisa Carbery; six grandchildren: Patrick M. Carbery, Sean and Kyle Carbery, Andrew, Aaron and Annie Emery; and one great- grandchild, Ayden Jay. The family would like to thank the staff of Family Home Care and Manor Care for making Gene's last days comfortable and enjoyable.
