MacFarland, Bruce R. Ph.D., Bruce R. MacFarland, 87 02/02/1923 02/25/2010 Dr. Bruce MacFarland died peacefully Feb. 25, 2010, at home in Encinitas, Calif., with his wife, family and dog by his side. He was 87. He is survived by his wife, Lyn; son, David (Molly); daughters, Sandy (Jim) and Sharon (Dan); Lyn's children, Deborah (Charles), Marcie (Ron), Brad (Carole), Yvonne (David) and Christine (Todd); Bruce's grand-children, Doug (Brittaney and their son, Wilder); Cameron (Erik); and Scott; and Lyn's grandchildren, Sean, Ryan, Sarah, Jacob, Benjamin, Nicole, Kenneth, Jeremy and Jackson. Bruce graduated from the University of Denver in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science and received his doctorate in clinical nutrition from Lafayette University. Dr. MacFarland was a pioneer in the areas of nutrition, holistic health and research for over 40 years. A successful entrepreneur, he founded five companies: Medical Diet Service Inc., 1963; Professional & Technical Services Inc., 1967; Rincon Del Bosque Health Spa, 1974; The Wellness Center, 1980; and Radiance International, 1994. Dr. MacFarland lectured and counseled thousands of women and men to optimal health and wellness through his Candida Program and innovative products (Pro-Gest, progesterone cream) over his career. He worked daily in his business, Radiance International. Bruce was an eagle scout, and organized the first soccer team at the University of Denver. A decorated World War II veteran, he completed 30 missions in Europe and was the tallest ball-turret gunner in the U.S. Army Air Corps. In his early working years, he was a ballroom dance instructor, restaurant manager of Yaw's and Jake's Famous Crawfish and professional salesman for Acacia Mutual Life Insurance Company. He enjoyed tennis, skiing, dancing, the bagpipes, Dixieland Jazz, oysters, sushi, Kopps Frozen Custard and helping teach others about his passion for eating correctly and proper supplementation. He was beloved by all and lived an energized and passionate life. Bruce requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Boy Scouts of America. A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 15, 2010, in the Courtyard Village at Raleigh Hills, 4875 S.W. 78th Ave., Portland, OR 97225.
