Arjil, Mary Louise ''Mommy Arjil'' Our Mom was born on December 19, 1919 in Stockton, California to Telesforo and Lucrecia Soto. She died on February 1, 2010 due to complications from diabetes and other health issues. She leaves behind six children to remember her in her good times and bad moments - Anthony (Connie) Arjil of Placerville, Richard (Marilynn) Arjil of Sacramento, Yolanda Silva of Elk Grove, Mary Lou (Skip) Nutting of Mt. Aukum, Tom (Cricket) Arjil of Sloughhouse, and Dirk (Cyndi) Arjil also of Sloughhouse. She also had 17 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren who gave her great joy and happiness. Mom wasn't afraid of hard work and she showed it by picking cotton, grapes and prunes and driving a truck during hop season. Her last job was as a custodian and yard duty supervisor at the Cosumnes Elementary School (Elk Grove Unified School District). It is there that she acquired the title of ''Mommy Arjil'' by the students enrolled at the school. Mom loved to go to the casinos, garden, cook, travel, and entertain her family and friends with her humor and antics. However, she also had a temper and if you stepped out of line she would not hesitate to give you ''the look.'' She was very honest and wasn't afraid to give you her opinion on a topic whether you asked for it or not. Mom, we will miss you but are comforted knowing that you are no longer in pain. A memorial service will be held at the Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Boulevard, Elk Grove, California, on Thursday, February 11, 2010 beginning at 11:00 A.M. Donations may be made in her memory to either the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer's Association / Society. Published in the The Sacramento Bee on February 7, 2010
