Gonzales, Evelyn Morales

Evelyn Morales Gonzales 75, passed away May 21, 2010, of
complications of liver cancer. She was a fourth generation
Tucsonan born June 23, 1934, descendant of Sonora
(Urrea) and Arizona (VanAlstine) pioneers and Mexican Civil
War refugees (Morales). Evelyn was a 1952 graduate of
Tucson High School. She is preceded in death by her
parents, Adela Ortiz de Morales and Rene R. Morales; her
brother, Rene R. Morales Jr. and her husband, Carlos L.
Gonzales. Evelyn is survived by her children, Dr. Carlos
(Deb) Gonzales of Nogales, AZ, Adela Gonzales of Tucson,
Linda (Hector) Tovar of Glendale, Katharine (Roy Mendez)
Gonzales of New Orleans, LA and Miguel (Danette)
Gonzales of Tucson; her late in life partner, Tony Zapata;
sister, Bertha (Mario) Carrasco of Tucson; her
grandchildren, Michael Gonzales, Rene Bernal-Gonzales,
Monique (Arturo) Casillas, Evelinda Gonzales, John Bernal,
Carlos Gonzales, Maritza (Carlos) Fierro, Maya Bernal, Felip
Gonzales, Miguel Gonzales, Maricruz Gonzales-Mendez,
Melina Gonzales, Markel Gonzales and Rogelio Gonzales-
Mendez and one great-grandchild on the way. She was a
homemaker for most of her life until the death of her
husband, when she found a new calling-becoming a health
care Promotora. She loved helping her ladies in the YWCA
Hispanic Women with Cancer support group. Her Bunco
Group also brought her immense joy. But her passion was
her children and grandchildren. Donations in her name can
be made to the YWCA Hispanic Women with Cancer
support group. Visitation will be Thursday, May 27, 2010
from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at BRING'S MEMORIAL CHAPEL,
with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered
Friday, May 28, 2010 10:30 a.m. at Santa Cruz Catholic
Church on South 6th Ave. Interment will follow at Holy
Hope Cemetery. Arrangements by BRING'S MEMORIAL
CHAPEL, 236 S. Scott.
